Purpose of the Trip
The purpose of this trip is four-fold:
1. Exposure to the southern African context and the culture of Botswana.
2. Experience God’s heart for Botswana.
3. Serving the vision of the national church and career missionaries for the development of the people in the communities.
4. Praying together with AZAG & AGWM leadership, capturing memories, and sharing stories of missional impact upon returning home.
Botswana is known as the “Gem of Africa” as the home of the world’s richest diamond mine, exporting some of the most precious stones around the globe. Even more precious than diamonds is the next generation in Botswana.
Since 2022, Arizona has had the privilege of strategically partnering with career missionaries, Jake and Vanessa Johnson. We have partnered to address the water crisis, built tabernacles for the national church, and provided training for church planters and next-gen ministries.
Our team will partner with the national leadership to continue building the church and reaching university students with the gospel of Christ.
This trip is designed for youth pastors and young adults who are all in for God’s mission and are serious about taking their faith abroad. This will be a life-changing experience that will challenge you and leave a lasting impact on the community in Botswana. -
What to Expect
Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa with an economy that is dominated by mining, cattle, and tourism. Also known as the "Gem of Africa," it is the continent's largest producer of diamonds. A mid-sized country of just over 2.3 million people, Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.
With over 80% of the country covered by the Kalahari Desert, Botswana remains a very arid and drought-prone region. Botswana also faces the major environmental problem of desertification, making it extremely hard on three-quarters of the country’s population that depends on groundwater for survival.
Due to the fact that it has the world's second-highest prevalence of AIDS, Botswana is now the home of over 100,000 AIDS orphans.
The capital city of Gaborone is one of the fastest-growing cities on the continent and comes with many challenges, such as poverty, overcrowding, high unemployment, and increased crime rates. Botswana is a country in need of a vibrant national church.

What is AIM?
We go to the nations every year on short-term mission trips through Ambassadors In Mission (AIM), the short-term youth missions program of the Assemblies of God. We encourage every student to go on a foreign mission trip before they graduate high school.
AIM trips can either be stateside or international. AIM started in 1966 and now nearly 10,000 students participate on these trips each year. AIM is a coordinated effort between students, leaders, missionaries and host churches. With Assemblies of God missions in over 250 countries, the opportunities are endless!
